The Phoenicians developed into one of the most successful trading civilizations of ancient times. One reason for their success was their location. They also have a lot of natural resources and they were great sea navigators.

A fashion statements

Egyptians had a major influence on the Phoenicians’ fashion. Their styles and costumes were from Egypt.  

Both men and women wore capes and tunics. Some men are depicted as wearing short skirts, loin clothes, and large pendants bearing the symbols of regional gods.

A simpler system

The ancient Egyptians used a writing system based on hieroglyphics, and it was an extremely complicated system. 

Borrowing a few symbols from hieroglyphics, The Phoenicians simplified the system.
