For many centuries, Egypt controlled Nubia. However, this all changed when the new kingdom was formed. The new rulers of Egypt said they wouldn’t take their resources anymore or control them. This meant that Nubia was independent for the next 400 years.

When they became independent, Nubians went back to a more traditional way of choosing rulers. Instead of father to son it was mother to daughter.

Nubians chose a new capital, called Meroe, which was farther south.

Nubian religion was like Egyptian religion, they believed that there are many gods.
