The Gods and Goddesses of Olympus
Mt. Olympus was the home to the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece.
In ancient Greece, Zeus was the king of the gods and ruled along with 11 other significant gods.
The ancient Greeks believed that each god had special powers. They also think that the universe was created by Gaia (goddess of the Earth), and Uranus (god of the sky).
The Greeks created myths to explain things they didn’t understand.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, military victory, and women’s crafts. Her symbols include a helmet, a spear, an owl, and an olive tree.
Demeter was the goddess of grain and the harvest. Her symbols include a torch, a crown, and stalks of grain.
Ares is the god of war. He is portrayed as a warrior.
Artemis is the goddess of hunting and animals, as well as childbirth. Her symbols are the bow and the fawn.
The Greeks are immortalized in paintings. Their art shows how important the myths were in the lives of people.
